Oil On Wood (As Usual Wine Boxes) Sky, Prairie, Mahogany

This oil on wood piece is another inspired by Everglades photos taken over a number of years. Originally there were no trees in this particular painting. I actually really liked it as that.

But then I fell prey to that terrible thing--doubt. "I wonder if other people are going to like it....what are they going to think? Is it boring?  It is a little odd because I rarely do this. SO I added trees and I immediately hated them. It took awhile for me to get to the point where I kind of liked them and forgave myself for adding them. They are, essentially two copses of mahogany trees that were in a different photograph.

Obviously I am not trying to depict actual things in any case but being inspired by something that exists is the basic M.O. I suppose here we are just combining two such things.

Final Sky Paintings Oils (Not Finished PAINTING These!)

These are the as yet nowhere NEAR DONE sky oil paintings. The full sized ones actually look shittier than the paintings actually are though so I took some close ups that you can see in the gallery below.

I was trying to work all these paintings together--one with a sort of silvery blue sky, another straight up blue and another at night. BUT that didn't work so well so I switched to doing each one singly.

I am not sure where these will wind up but I have some sneaky ideas. There will certainly be more paint involved...lots more paint.

Old Paintings--Oils--Probably From 1986

I found these paintings behind a bed at my mom's house. They are all from, approximately, 1986 but could be anywhere from up to about 1988. All are oils on canvas board.

The one to the left (and larger below) is of the fence outside my apartment at the University of Florida It is pretty large? Bigger than 18 x 24. The tree immediately below is the magnolia that used to be on the border between my mom and neighbor's house (it has some damage--some paper is stuck to it..needs fixed.) This one is maybe 16 x 20 ish Always loved the magnolia picture.

Below the magnolia is a painting of a small courtyard outside the art department at the University of Florida. This is a small painting--probably not even 8 x10. It was from an art class (the only formal class I ever took). The instructor liked it so much he hung it in a glass case in the hallway outside the class.

The one below that is a painting outside the back of the apartment where I lived. It is amusing to me how much it looks like paintings I am doing now but more colorful.

The final painting was another class painting. I had to do some still life. There were others but...they are lost....

Four Small Oils For Kickstarter

I am a little behind getting these out to the people who kicked in to my kickstarter for them...I had a hard time doing these oils as they are very small. I kept dropping them on the floor...then they took forever to dry (surprised me because I didnt use tons of paint)....

I am still debating if they are done....I might need to buy a smaller brush or two for some tiny tiny details. These are 2 x 2 inches btw....they were supposed to be 2x 1~...but I couldn't find the canvases that size!
