A Single Sky Painting At Dusk

This new sky painting is one I just finished. It is 7 x 10 1/4 and is all watercolor.

I had several photos I cropped to only they sky from central Florida (near Mt Dora) and I tried for awhile to match the colors and tones without much success. This one is the one that I liked best. Several others similar to this are in the offing.

I wonder how they would look as oils.

Peach And Violet Skies. One Works? One Doesn't!

First of all, if you haven't already, consider PLEDGING TO THE KICKSTARTER BY CLICKING HERE!.

Making attempts at painting some renditions of parts of sky photos I received that are peach and violet colored. The one on the top sort of works. The one on the bottome not as much.

Both of these are 6x4 and I am going to work on some smaller ones like this. Have a larger one but it isn't close enough to done. The bottom one I am likely to fiddle with before giving up on it! (I do that)....

The problem with light backgrounds is that it is hard to add white. You are better off using the white of the paper. NOW, with these small ones the paper texture isn't right for that (in my opinion)...

Sky Gouaches, Two Big, One Medium Sized

OK so I need to stop with the gouaches for awhile. They take longer for me! But here are three I have been working on. The one on the left is 7 x 10 1/4. It is another bright sky with darkness creeping in.  There are subtle color highlights you cannot realllly see here.

The painting on the right below is one I pictured earlier in its earliest stages! Now it is in its middle stages and still needs some work. I need to "remove" some detail I think. When I was finishing up last night I thought I had RUINED it. But it isn't ruined. Just needs some work! Both of these are a hair bigger than 12 x 16 inches.

The one on the left is a new effort at duplicating the feel of the original piece (check post below this one). It didn't but is looking decent.

I am going to put these aside and work on some very bright watercolors based on Colorado skies tonight.

Pledge to Kickstarter Campaign if you can. Around a week left and $$$ to go!

Sky Gouaches--Brighter Than The Other Paintings

These are two gouaches I did early on in the painting process. I decided, at length, that I sort of liked these two (there are three photos but two are of the same pieces.

These are much more vibrant than the watercolors and also more "cartoony" for lack of a better way of putting it. I did some other gouaches that are a little duller and some others still where I did gouache over watercolor.

I am debating posting them as I am not sure how I feel about them.

Sky Paintings--Watercolor & Gouache I Am Not Real Sure Of...

I am not totally convinced I don't like these I suppose but they just didn't really turn out as I intended. All but one of them are 6x4. the one below on the far left is 7 x 10 1/4.

What is the problem? In the above painting, which sort of looks ok abstractly I just didn't get it to look how I wanted. I was trying to put gouache over watercolor.

I sort of like the two on the bottom to the left. The larger one is sort of ok...the one in the middle is black and white...the one on the far left just doesn't work. I was trying to blend in colors and over the black it just isn't right.

But..live and learn!

Some Darker Skies

The small 5x4 painting to the left is one of my favorites. It is sort of exactly what the sky looks like some days in Chicago!...

The two paintings below are larger 7 x 10 1/4 offerings the one on the right I used only white, black and a tiny bit of blue with some silver watercolor medium in it. I think there are some unforgivable flaws in the painting though but I am going to dry to duplicate it.

The larger one on the right is actually fainter than it seems. It is sort of pretty. But not sure it is "all there" either. But I think all of these can be copied and fixed...excluding the top one that I may try to do a larger version of....

Violet Skies--All Watercolors 7x 10 1/4

When I posted these earlier at a social media site one friend told me they looked pornographic. I told them they need to get out more. These are based on photos of beautiful skies in Colorado.

Those skies had no, or few clouds, so when I got the colors together they didn't really look like the sky!..

I looked at them for awhile and added some  clouds.

Not sure if these are what I want them to be but I will keep plugging away with the idea of the violet skies, if nothing else!

Sky Paintings Again!

Some more paintings of the sky! It is funny I am doing so many of these when the Kickstarter for them seems to be a wee bit dead (I encourage you to PLEDGE to return it to life). I sort of thought maybe I shouldn't do another Kickstarter and instead just do them and sell them BUT I wanted to do it to pay for the cost of those larger paintings. The materials for those I do not just have on hand (canvases...). What can I say? I am poor.

Anyway, the painting about (6x4 inches) is watercolor and gouache. It came out nice. The two below are 7 x 10 1/4 inches and are all watercolor. I really like them too. I was getting frustrated trying to mix dark and blue skies together from photos so I just pulled these images out of my brain.

Below the two larger paintings are two more 6x4 efforts...I like the one on the left. The one on the right I cannot decide. It is sort of plain but it has some sort of ...I don't know, some sort of sumthin'....
