Some Darker Skies

The small 5x4 painting to the left is one of my favorites. It is sort of exactly what the sky looks like some days in Chicago!...

The two paintings below are larger 7 x 10 1/4 offerings the one on the right I used only white, black and a tiny bit of blue with some silver watercolor medium in it. I think there are some unforgivable flaws in the painting though but I am going to dry to duplicate it.

The larger one on the right is actually fainter than it seems. It is sort of pretty. But not sure it is "all there" either. But I think all of these can be copied and fixed...excluding the top one that I may try to do a larger version of....

Violet Skies--All Watercolors 7x 10 1/4

When I posted these earlier at a social media site one friend told me they looked pornographic. I told them they need to get out more. These are based on photos of beautiful skies in Colorado.

Those skies had no, or few clouds, so when I got the colors together they didn't really look like the sky!..

I looked at them for awhile and added some  clouds.

Not sure if these are what I want them to be but I will keep plugging away with the idea of the violet skies, if nothing else!

KICKSTARTER HERE.

Sky Paintings Again!

Some more paintings of the sky! It is funny I am doing so many of these when the Kickstarter for them seems to be a wee bit dead (I encourage you to PLEDGE to return it to life). I sort of thought maybe I shouldn't do another Kickstarter and instead just do them and sell them BUT I wanted to do it to pay for the cost of those larger paintings. The materials for those I do not just have on hand (canvases...). What can I say? I am poor.

Anyway, the painting about (6x4 inches) is watercolor and gouache. It came out nice. The two below are 7 x 10 1/4 inches and are all watercolor. I really like them too. I was getting frustrated trying to mix dark and blue skies together from photos so I just pulled these images out of my brain.

Below the two larger paintings are two more 6x4 efforts...I like the one on the left. The one on the right I cannot decide. It is sort of plain but it has some sort of ...I don't know, some sort of sumthin'....

And Yet More Sky Paintings

The painting to the right is a small postcard sized one that actually looks better in person--well, they generally ALL look better in person.

The one below is a subtle, gentle sky. It is one of my favorites but it is so subtle I fear my crappy photography skills do not do it justice.

Again KICKSTARTER LINK is HERE.

Two More Sky Paintings

OK these pics seem blurry to me for some reason. Two more smaller paintings. Did a larger one too but it just doesn't look right. Of these two I like the bottom one and am not as big on the top. It needs something.

These are "less dramatic" than the ones below. I need to figure a way to make the more subtle ones have some drama. The top one is too abstract. You might not even know it was clouds.

Sky Paintings--The First Batch

The first of the Sky Paintings that are the subject of my latest--and fairly low cost to get funded--Kickstarter.

The top three of these are 6x4 inches. They came out a little darker than they are in actuality.

I like the top two, am still wondering about the second to last one. It needs a little something!

The bottom sky bothers me because it is so light. It is so much more fun to paint a storm. I think it might just need a tiny bit more work. I will resist reaching for the black paint. I was even thinking of using some gouache on that one in addition to the watercolor....

Kickstarter for these paintings again is HERE.

More Trees I and II...Plus EVEN More Trees

More Trees II
Some recent Everglades paintings, including a very very late Kickstarter painting for a certain film critic.

The two "More Trees" paintings are sort of small and large versions of one another that I painted at the same time. Not sure why they came out looking different. Initially I didn't like the larger painting (#1) but I put it away and then brought it out a week later and thought; "oh, I do like it".

The Poisonwood Grove painting is another variation on the theme but minimalist. I want to try to do larger versions of this.

Speaking of larger, the painting below, Large Dark Prairie is the biggest watercolor I have done. Yes, it is only like 16x 12 but for me that is pretty big.....I am not sure it is done and I am not entirely sure it is good.

These are some new smaller paintings (6x4) in the Everglades series. Three of these four are NOT kickstarter rewards. I like all of them actually, especially the one that I am showing twice!. I made up names for them all but my names are boring. I need to come up with better titles!

Later I will post four other larger paintings (7 x 10 1/4) that are pretty close to completion or done. I cannot decide if they are ALL done yet. At least three of them are.

Two Ponds & Purple Flowers
Five New 6X4 Everglades paintings. I am trying to make sure the skies are ...interesting.

These are all of prairie in Everglades National Park. These are vaster than the ones you see right from the road but from other angles you would see things like this.

Again the skies always seem to be interesting down there.

Small Sky & Mahongany Stand Blue ky

I call the painting to the left Small Sky. I was looking at photos of the Everglades and the ones I liked best were of the skies. But I hadn't painted any of paintings that were mostly sky. Until this one.

The photo looks like shit but trust me...it is a a pretty good little painting.

The other one is a Mahogany Stand With Blue Sky. It really should have more ochre in it to be anything close to realistic but NONE of these are REALISTIC so...

Seriously...I just couldnt get a good picture of these...Details in each.
