Some More Trees, From Mars To The Prairie

These are some recent tree paintings. I sort of like the sky in the dark sky prairie one. I sort of like the whole painting but only sort of. There is something cartoony about it that appeals to me. None of these are from anywhere but my head.

If There Were Trees On Mars was initially the product of extra paint. I painted the leftover orangeish paint on one side of the and the blueish on the other. It sat there for at least a week. The first thing I thought of was; "It looks like mars." But how do you paint anything on Mars? Hmmm What if there were trees on mars? You see my line of thinking.

The Gwendle Bug Tree is one I painted specifically for someone. I am not sure they wanted THIS specifically but this is what they are getting. I am painting stuff as practice and if I get anything good I make an effort to disseminate them outward!

I love the Gwendle Bug tree, oh how I wish my name were Gwendy... i want a Julia Lula tree, kinda like this on a very grey day, with little black and grey leaves falling, some branches bare, with a tiny little blue bird perched, just waiting...

For many years I painted. Then I stopped. These paintings started out a sort of experiment. Even when I did paint I never did watercolor. I spent a lot of time trying to be Van Gogh painting oil. Most of the paintings were unfinished. I decided to start using watercolor based only on the recollections of what my father had tried to teach me years ago. The newer paintings are the more recent. If you go back to the beginning you can see the early stumbling ones.

I didn't start by drawing, I didn't practice. I just painted. I haven't included ALL the paintings and at some point I will post the first ones I did. But most of the paintings--for good or ill are here. Some are oil and also gouache.
